  • NAQT Missouri Qualifier
  • MOQBA at University of Missouri-Columbia
  • NAQT HSNCT Qualifier
  • PACE NSC Qualifier
  • Questions: NAQT IS-95
  • The Missouri Quizbowl Alliance will host the third annual NAQT Missouri Qualifier on March 20, 2010 at the University of Missouri-Columbia. As MOQBA's flagship event, this tournament regularly features a diverse field of teams from throughout Missouri, recognizing the state's top teams for national tournament qualification and creating a championship atmosphere. Matt Chadbourne and Jeffrey Hill will serve as tournament directors of this official NAQT event, which will use untimed NAQT rules. In addition to the standard HSNCT qualification criteria, the champion of this tournament is guaranteed a spot in the 2010 HSNCT in Chicago, and the top team that had not qualified at a previously-held tournament will also receive a bid to HSNCT. MOQBA encourages all teams to attend this tournament even if they do not intend to attend the HSNCT, in order to provide teams with a true representation of Missouri quizbowl.

  • Missouri S&T Spring Tournament
  • Missouri S&T
  • NAQT HSNCT Qualifier
  • PACE NSC Qualifier
  • Questions: NAQT IS-90 in modified Missouri format
  • This tournament will use a modification of the standard Missouri format, in order to allow teams to play more games and face a wider variety of opponents. Each game will still have four quarters, and each quarter will contain eight tossups, for a total of thirty-two. Tossups answered correctly in the second and fourth quarters will be followed by bonuses as normal. The tournament will feature preliminary rounds in the morning and playoffs after lunch; the exact specifications of the tournament will be determined by the final field size, but every team will be guaranteed a minimum of six games. The field cap is tentatively set at 24 teams, though we will make every effort to include all interested teams, and we will be dividing the field into small-school and large-school divisions of roughly equal size.

  • Spirit of St. Louis Warm-up
  • Parkway Central High School
  • NAQT HSNCT Qualifier
  • PACE NSC Qualifier
  • Questions: NAQT IS-89A
  • The question format will be standard NAQT rules-pyramidal questions (though the questions will be shorter and slightly easier than most NAQT sets), neg-5's for incorrect early buzzes, 15 points instead of 10 for correct early answers, and 30-point bonuses with no rebounding.

The tournament field will be broken into two brackets of eight teams for preliminary rounds, with a round robin in each bracket, for seven prelim rounds total. After lunch, teams will be broken up into four groups of four based on record and total points for pool play. Final placement will be determined by results against teams in the same playoff pool. I expect the tournament to conclude around 4 P.M. or slightly earlier, which should be very reasonable for most teams, but this also guarantees ten rounds for every team.
